BTEC TECH AWARD IN ENTERPRISE

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

Studying a BTEC Tech Award in Business will aid progression to further study and prepare you to enter the workplace in due course.  In the business sector, you will be aiming to move into entry-level roles, such as assistants in business administration, marketing, finance and human resources, sales and customer services.  The course is marked using PASS, MERIT and DISTINCTION and is worth the equivalent to 1 GCSE.

WHAT THE COURSE INVOLVES

Component 1: Exploring Enterprises – (internal)

  • Examine the characteristics of enterprises
  • Explore how market research helps enterprises to meet customer needs and understand competitor behaviour
  • Investigate the factors that contribute to the success of an enterprise.

Component 2: Planning for and Running an Enterprise – (internal)

  • Explore ideas, plan and pitch for a micro-enterprise activity
  • Operate and review the success of a micro-enterprise activity.

Component 3: Promotion and Finance for Enterprise – (external)

  • Promotional mix and their purposes
  • Targeting and segmenting the market
  • Factors influencing the choice of promotional methods
  • Financial documents
  • Payment methods
  • Sources of revenue and costs
  • Financial statements
  • Statement of comprehensive income
  • Statement of financial position
  • Profitability and liquidity
  • Cash flow
  • Break-even analysis
  • Sources of business finance
