WHY STUDY ENGINEERING?

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE COURSE

WJEC Level 1/2 Awards in Engineering offer a learning experience that focuses learning for 14-16 year olds through applied learning, i.e. acquiring and applying knowledge, skills and understanding through purposeful tasks set in sector or subject contexts that have many of the characteristics of real work.

 Unit 1 (9791): Engineering Design – Internally assessed & externally moderated.

  • Identify the key features and functions required from the information provided. Use this information to develop a design specification.
  • Suggest three options to meet the design specification which are based on successful engineered products. Review the suitability of each and recommend the best option.
  • Using accepted standards and conventions draw your preferred solution.

 Unit 2 (9792): Producing Engineering Products

 Learn how to read and interpret technical drawings.

  • Produce a product based upon provided drawings.

Unit 3 (9793): Solving Engineering Problems

 Exam based assessment on solving engineering problems.

WHERE CAN THIS SUBJECT TAKE ME?

  • Engineering gives students a broad knowledge and understanding of the manufacturing sector.
  • Many of the students who enjoyed studying Engineering have gone on to study A Level Product  Design: . You can also study any Design and Technology related course post-16.The career opportunities for students with qualifications in manufacturing and Engineering are wide and varied.  Many students go on to work in the aerospace, automotive, biotech,        electronics and engineering.
