National Online Safety

The Breck Foundation

It is important to remember that what has become our deep reliance on the internet, the dangers can be more pronounced.

The Breck Foundation campaigns for a safer internet for all children and young people – whether they are gaming, communicating on social media, using apps or taking part in any other internet-based activity.

The Breck Foundation was set up in 2014 in response to the tragic murder of Breck Bednar, a 14-year-old Surrey schoolboy who loved science, computing and gaming. Breck’s killer groomed him over the internet for more than a year.

Last year, in association with four police forces, the foundation created a module of work asking the question “Do you know who your online friends really are?”. The result was a video called ‘Breck’s Last Game’.

I think this is an ideal time for teenagers and parents to watch the video together and begin the conversation about why we need to be so careful online.
