Pastoral Care

Every student who enters Tile Cross Academy is assigned to a House under the overall control and guidance of Heads of House and House Managers. The day to day welfare and pastoral care system of the School is based around the Form Tutors, Heads of House and House Managers and senior leaders.

The Form Tutors take responsibility for the well-being and progress of the students in their form. They check their attendance and punctuality, their appearance, their attitude to work and their behaviour. They advise students who have problems, offer them support and, when necessary, consult parents.

In this important pastoral role, the Form Tutors work closely with all their colleagues along with the Welfare Department. They are supported by Heads of House and House Managers, the Safeguarding Officer, Deputy Head teachers and the Head teacher. If parents are in any way concerned about their child’s well-being or progress, they are urged to get in touch with the School promptly.

In most cases the Form Tutors, Heads of House and House Managers can help since they usually know the students best but other staff are available to talk to parents to discuss their concerns, if necessary. If visiting the school, parents are, however, asked to make appointments whenever possible, as teachers have heavy commitments and cannot always make themselves available if parents visit the school without notice.

Each House group has a weekly assembly in the Central Hall, with Form Tutors, the House Leaders and a member of the Senior Leadership Team present. Others, including outside speakers are invited during the course of the year.
