Pastoral Care

Accepting a place at Tile Cross Academy and the high expectations that we have is acceptance of our behaviour policy and procedures that promote Behaviour for Learning.

Our ethos is one of ‘visible kindness’. We want to develop the character of each child and in doing so accept that all adults have a responsibility in playing their part in doing so. We want all our children to have a sense of belonging in the academy and we want our children to feel a sense of connection with our expectations.

Every child who enters Tile Cross Academy is assigned to a House under the overall leadership and guidance of the Heads of Year. The day-to-day welfare and pastoral care system of the school is based around the Form Tutors, Heads of Year and Pastoral Managers and senior leaders.

The Form Tutors take responsibility for the well-being and progress of the children in their form. They check their attendance and punctuality, their appearance, their attitude to work and their behaviour. They advise children who have problems, offer them support and, when necessary, consult parents.

In this important pastoral role, the Form Tutors work closely with all their colleagues along with the Welfare Department. They are supported by Heads of Year and Pastoral Managers, the Safeguarding Officer and the senior teachers. If parents are in any way concerned about their child’s well-being or progress, they are urged to get in touch with the school promptly.

In most cases the Form Tutors, Heads of Year and Pastoral Managers can help since they usually know the child best, but other staff are available to talk to parents to discuss their concerns, if necessary. If visiting the school, parents are, however, asked to make appointments whenever possible, as teachers have heavy commitments and cannot always make themselves available if parents visit the school without notice.

Each Year group has a weekly assembly in the Central Hall, with Form Tutors, the Year Leaders and a member of the Senior Leadership Team present. Others, including outside speakers are invited during the year.

At Tile Cross Academy we want children to grow and develop academically, socially and personally so that they leave us able to move into adulthood as confident, qualified people with a strong sense of self-discipline, proper regard for authority and able to establish and maintain positive relationship with others from all walks of life.

We want all our children to go on to lead happy, healthy and successful lives, with a career and continuing drive to be the best that they can be and to always make a positive contribution to their community.
