Year 7 and 8 Indoor Athletics - Celebrations all round!

It was the night before Friday, when the Tile Cross Girls dominated this year's School Games Athletics competition!

There were 7 teams participating in total, including Cockshut Hill, KESH and Archbishop Ilsley, just to name a few!

The evening started with 'Coach Anuska' leading both teams through an impressive warm up routine, at which point we were already feeling very proud, and it was just the start of what was to come!

So, let's start with our year 7 team. It was their first experience of the event, and wow did they do us and themselves proud! With some incredible performances from all the girls, including 5 wins on the track, and with Taliyah and Ayaan coming no less than 1st place in all of their races, they finished in an impressive 2nd place!!!

Now for the year 8 team, wow! They dominated on the track all evening, winning 7 out of a possible 9 races, with Anuska coming no less than 1st place on the track all evening and Kyarrah crying happy tears after an amazing win in the Paarlauf! But it wasn't just on the track that the girls were running the show, we had Kasey, in Anuska's words throwing the shot putt 'missions' and Anniyah having an impressive spring in her step for the jumping events!

But it was the final race of the night that stole the show, the relay! Dania got off to a strong start, keeping up with her opponents, only to take a stumble after the first turn! But with a great attitude and willingness to keep going, she got up and kept the team in the race! Running the 2nd and 3rd leg of the race was Anniyah and Tiarnah, both of which did an incredible job of gaining some ground and closing the gap! But this wasn't without its drama as the two almost dropped the baton in-between! This then left our 4th and final runner, Anuska, with a lot of work to do, but wow did she do it! Her incredible speed saw her fly past her opponents and somehow finish in 1st place!

All these successes could only mean one thing... CHAMPIONS!!! The year 8 team finished in 1st place and will now be invited to compete at the Birmingham School Games finals during the spring term!

The girls were an absolute credit to Tile Cross all evening and deserved every bit of their success!
